History & Timeline
Early Life
Born mid-1960s.
Father: Joseph Danvers. Mother unnamed. Older Brother: Steve Danvers.
Strained relationship to parents due to their treatment based on her gender, good relationship with brother.
Participates in numerous physical sports and risky activities against her parents' wishes, including baseball player (Sparrows) on a boys team and driving race carts.
Air Force Career
Enlists in United StatesAir Force shortly after turning 18 to pursue becoming a pilot.
Has to deal with being belitted, heckled and harassed for her gender.
Best friend: Maria Rambeau, fellow pilot. Becomes godmother to Maria's daughter, Monica, integrated into their family. Helps raise Monica.
Carol and Maria finish training and graduate, earning the rank "Captain".
Not allowed to fly in combat due to restrictions in place at the time.
Offered a position with Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S., a joint project between S.H.I.E.L.D. and NASA under Dr. Wendy Lawson, who becomes a mentor to Carol.
Pilot callsign: Avenger
1989: Carol pilots for Dr. Lawson, who provides Carol with coordinates for her lab and get attacked by a Starforce aircraft. Carol and Dr. Lawson crash.
Dr. Lawson reveals she isn't human, but rather a Kree scientist named Mar-Vell
Carol destroys the Light-Speed Engine's core at Dr. Lawson's behest while facing off against Yon-Rogg. The sudden explosion unleashes Tesseract energy, which Carol absorbs before falling unconscious.
Kree Starforce
Yon-Rogg takes an unconscious Carol back to the Kree planet Hala. She's given blood transfusions to turn her into a Kree hybrid, as well as a photon inhibitor to keep her powers in check, which she is led to believe gives her her powers. With her memories suppressed by the Kree, she's given the name Vers (taken off the broken dog tag found on the crash site).
For six years, "Vers" lives on Hala and operates as a member of Starforce under Yon-Roggs influence. She has nomemories of her past, only glimpses in dreams.
"Vers" is trained and indoctrinated in the ways of a Kree soldier, taught to supress her emotions, though her stubborn determination, dry wit and impulsiveness still bleed through.
"Vers" is taught to believe that she needs to rely on her mind not her emotions to control her powers.
The Supreme Intelligence has "Vers" believe her struggle with her emotion and flashes of a different life are due to the Skrull, the Kree's enemies. The Supreme Intelligence uses "Vers"' lack of memory to convince her to pu the Kree collective over herself.
On a mission to retrieve a Kree spy from a planet sheltering Skrulls, "Vers" is knocked out by Talos, and taken by the Skrulls.
"Vers" is connected to a machine probing her memories, flashing through various moments of her life as Carol Danvers as the Skrull attempt to find information on Mar-Vell and her lab.
"Vers" breaks out from her restraints, and doesn't believe the claims that what she saw where her own memories, assuming the Skrull are trying to manipulate her.
"Vers" uses a pod to escape the Skrull ship, crashing onto a nearby planet: C-53, not knowing it is Earth.
"Vers" meets Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, eventually teaming up with Nick Fury to investigate Dr. Lawson and Project Pegasus, to find out what the Skrull are after. "Vers" also wants to find out more about the alleged memories she has, and how all this connects to her. In the course of infiltrating a Project Pegasus facility to find out more, "Vers" unovers a photo depicting herself, Dr. Lawson and Maria Rambeau, prompting further memories to resurface. The two escape the base in a Quadjet, with the "cat" Goose, formerly belonging to Dr. Lawson and always fond of Carol, stowing away aboard the Quadjet.
Siding with Skrulls
Fury and "Vers" track down Maria Rambeau, who reveals that "Vers" is actually Carol Danvers, and has been believed to be dead for the past six years.
The reunion is interrupted by Talos, who reveals he has a blackbox from the crash. The audio recording helps trigger "Vers" memories of being Carol Danvers. Talos further explains that the Kree war against the Skrull is an injust war, and that the Skrull only want to reach Mar-Vell's secret lab to find a new home, not to attack the Kree.
Carol, Maria, Talos and Fury use the modified quadjet to find Mar-Vell's cloaked lab in orbit around Earth, realizing that there are Skrull refugees aboard already, who have been hiding from the Kree for six years and whom Talos wanted to reunite with.
Yon-Rogg and his Starforce team attack the lab, and initially succeed in knocking Carol out. While connected to the Supreme Intelligence, she realizes the photon inhibitor isn't something that gives her power, but holds her back. She resists the Supreme Intelligence through sheer force of will, freeing herself from her Kree shackles and embracing her full, unbound powers.
In the fight against the Kree forces, Goose reveals herself to be a Flerken, opening her "cat" jaws to unleash tentacles and consume Kree soldiers, as well as the Tesseract, hiding it within Goose.
Carol makes a show of force, driving away the Kree battleships arriving on site, and eventually knocks Yon-Rogg out, shoving him into a pod and sending him to Hala with the message that Carol will come and finish the war the Supreme Intelligence started.
After some more time with Maria, Monica and Fury, Carol eventually leaves Earth to help the remaining Skrull find a new home.
Hero Across the Universe
As soon as the Skrulls are out of danger, Carol spends the next few years in space, leaving Fury with a way to contact her in case of emergency, while she handles conflicts and threats on a variety of planets.
Avengers
23 years after regaining her memories and freeing herself from the Kree, Carol receives an emergency call from Nick Fury due to Thanos' Snap.
Carol encounters the remaining Avengers. On their behalf, she embarks into space to find the missing members of their team, recovering Tony Stark and Nebula, who are stranded in space.
Carol joins the Avengers as they share information on Thanos and the aftermath of the Snap. She initially plans to fly off on her own to fight Thanos, but is stopped and informed that the Avengers work as a team. Due to Nebula's input, they know where to find Thanos. The reamining Avengers including Carol agree to find Thanos, fight him, and use the Infinity Stones to undo the Snap.
They discover that Thanos destroyed the Infinity Stones. There appears to be no way to undo the loss of half the life in the galaxy.
During the next 5 years, Carol becomes a part of the Avengers, assisting other planets that have suffered similar crises to those of Earth. While coordinating with them, Carol mainly stays off planet, as thousands of other planets are affected as badly as Earth, and need someone to assist them as well.
After the Avengers used time travel to reverse the Snap, Carol returns to Earth to help battle a returned Thanos, taking down his battleship with ease, and assisting in the efforts to bring the Infinity Gauntlet and the stones to the Quantum Tunnel in Ant-Man's van.
Thanos is able to destroy the van, and Carol fights him to keep the Infinity Stones out of his grasp, as Thanos is now determined to undo the entire universe.
Realizing Carol's powers, Thanos has to eventually snatch the Power Stone to overpower her.
After the battle is won due to Tony Stark's sacrifice, Carol attends Stark's funeral to pay her respects, briefly reuniting with Fury.
Shortly after, Carol leaves Earth to return to her work off-world.
Abilities & Skills
Hybrid Physiology/Cosmic Enhancement
As a result of being exposed to the Tesseract/Space Stone's extraterrestial power, Carol has gained the ability to generate cosmic energy and manipulate it to her needs. Beyond that, she has gained heightened strength, speed, endurance and reflexes due to blood transfusions turning her into a Kree Hybrid. Years of honing her powers and skills on intergalactic missions have honed her control further. Her match against Thanos, which she only lost during his use of the Power Stone, proves her as one of the mightiest heroes in the universe.
Superhuman Strength
Even without using her photon blasts, Carol's strength allows her to send regular enemies flying with punches and kicks, as well as propel herself to jump far distances.
Superhuman Durability
As a result of her Kree Hybrid status, Carol's body has become more durable, making her able to resist blunt trauma, withstand falls from high altitudes, energy blasts and explosions. It seems there is a level of mundane pain that doesn't register hard enough to bother her (being hit in the face with a cane, for example). Crashlanding on Earth after surviving an exploding space bod and falling into a building likewise only leaves her momentarily dazed. She's also shown handling the Tesseract with her bare hands without suffering damage.
Superhuman Speed
Carol can keep up with the speed of a train on foot.
Superhuman Reflexes
While flying through open space, Carol is able to dodge gunshots from a warship, as well as effortlessly dodge many blows thrown her way in melee combat with relative ease.
Regenerative Healing Factor
As a result of the Kree blood, Carol can recover from injuries faster than humans, as well as suffering no apparently scarring even when hurt badly enough to draw blood.
Longevity
Carol's aging is extremely reduced, possibly even halted. Her physical age and condition do not change in the 23 years between leaving earth and returning to it.
Energy Absorption
As a result of being infused with Tesseract energy, Carol can passively absorb most formsof energy and transform it into her own cosmic energy. This makes her borderline immune against most energy-based threads, as she can absorb it and strengthen herself, as seen when she absorbs blasts fired at her from Thanos' space ship. This is not unlimited, however, as Carol isnot shown able to absorb the energy of the Power Stone when Thanos uses it against her.
Cosmic Energy Manipulation
Carol can summon the cosmic energy she absorbs at will, shrouding herself in a glowing aura known as the Binary, which increases her abilities and allows her to fly at incredible speeds, as well as survive even in the hard vacuum of outer space. She can accumulate the power in her fists, packing cosmic energy into her already powerful punches. The energy also helps her parry some blows that might otherwise hurt her.
Photon Blasts
Carol can shoot photon blasts from her hands, either to proper enemies hit, or herself, or concentrate them to the point of blasting through metal.
Energy Channeling
The sheer force of her cosmic energy can cause interference and power surges in nearby technology. Carol can deliberately use this to modulate the energy output and functional usage of mechanized appliances.
Binary Mode
When Carol produces a massive amount of cosmic energy, she can envelop herself within a glowing aura. In this state, known as Binary, her strength and durability are augmented to the point where she can fly through space without a suit, fly through a destroyer warship without sustaining damage, and stop ballistic missiles. This mode also greatly enhances her photon blasts, allowing her to use them to destroy warships with a single blast. While Binary, Carol was even able to withstand a direct blow with the Power Stone, which knocked her away but did not harm her.
Self-Sustenance: While Binary, Carol can survive in the depths of space without breathing equipment or other gear, not needing the aid of her helmet.
Flight: While Binary, Carol can fly, glide and float at great speeds through the air, and even through the vacuum of space without outside means of propulsion. She can also enter and exist a planet's atmosphere without issue while shrouded in this aura.
Master Combatant
Carol has training both through the United States Air Force and, more notable, through Kree Starfoce Soldiers, making her a highly trained, formidable opponent in unarmed combat.
Expert Acrobat
During her time in the Air Force, Carol underwent the regular parkour/obstacle course training regiments.
Marksman
Carol doesn't need to rely on weapons, but is trained enough at them through the Air Force and Starforce to make competent use of a variety of intergalactic fire arms.
Master Pilot
Carol is an extremely skilled Air Force pilot, who has been shown adapting to foreign space crafts with relative ease.
Advanced Technological Skills:
Carol has been shown to be able to engineer and modify simple Earth communications technology like payphones and a pager, turning them into highly efficient intergalactic communicators. Not smooth, but enough to do the job at least. It cannot be assumed that she knows her way around futuristic tech, but she can do a lot with a couple wires, apparently.
